Odisha advances metro rail project, awaits centre’s support

Bhubaneswar, Aug 20: The Odisha government has taken a significant step toward introducing a metro rail project in the state, with a dedicated committee already constituted to conduct surveys at different locations. The panel will assess technical feasibility, route alignment, and financial requirements for the ambitious project.
Housing and Urban Development Minister Krushna Chandra Mahapatra informed that the state has apprised the Centre about its metro rail vision and will formally seek technical expertise and financial assistance after the committee submits its report. He clarified that the share of financial contribution between the Centre and state government will be determined on the basis of the study’s recommendations.
Mahapatra further said that once the survey findings are submitted, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi will hold detailed discussions with the Union government to finalize the project’s implementation framework. Key decisions on route alignment, station planning, and phased development will also be taken based on the feasibility report.
Officials believe that the metro rail project, once approved, will significantly improve urban connectivity, reduce traffic congestion, and boost the state’s urban infrastructure, marking a major leap in Odisha’s modernization drive.
