Indian major ports see impressive 2.36% growth, with Paradip Port leading the way

Bhubaneswar, Oct 5: The latest data released by the Indian Ports Association reveals that cargo traffic at India's 12 major ports is on the upswing, reaching 393.732 million metric tonnes (MMT) in the first half of the fiscal year 2023-24. This marks a 2.35% year-on-year growth.
In a historic milestone, Paradip Port has emerged as the top performer, handling a remarkable 69.137 MMT of cargo during the current fiscal year's first half. This achievement is unprecedented, as it represents the highest cargo handling ever recorded among major ports in the initial half of any financial year. Furthermore, Paradip Port has demonstrated an impressive 8.5% incremental growth compared to the same period in the previous fiscal year, the highest among all major ports. Notably, the handling of iron ore, including pellets, by PPA, saw a remarkable incremental growth of 45.56%.
It's worth noting that Paradip Port had consistently held the second position in half-yearly cargo handling figures since the fiscal year 2016-17. However, breaking from this trend, Paradip Port has secured the coveted first position by achieving the highest cargo traffic.
P.L. Haranadh, Chairman of PPA, extended his congratulations to Team PPA for this outstanding performance and expressed his heartfelt gratitude to all stakeholders for their unwavering support and significant contributions.
