Odisha Govt mandates biometric attendance in all revenue offices to curb late reporting

Bhubaneswar, Aug 5: In a bid to improve punctuality and accountability in government offices, the Odisha government has issued a directive to all District Collectors to implement a Biometric Attendance System across all revenue offices under their jurisdiction.
A notification from the Revenue and Disaster Management Department emphasized that timely attendance is a top administrative priority. “All state government employees—from the lowest-ranking staff to senior officials—are expected to report to work within the prescribed office hours without fail,” the circular stated.
The directive follows a surprise inspection by the Revenue and Disaster Management Minister at the Office of the Inspector General of Registration in Cuttack on July 21, 2025. During the visit, several employees, including senior officers, were found arriving late to work, sparking concern over lax attendance discipline.
The introduction of biometric attendance systems aims to bring transparency and efficiency to day-to-day operations in revenue offices. It is also expected to set a standard for punctuality and enhance the overall quality of public service delivery.
District Collectors have been instructed to ensure strict compliance and monitor implementation closely.
