IMD forecasts low-pressure formation over Bay of Bengal, heavy rain likely across Odisha

Bhubaneswar, June 28: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday predicted the development of a low-pressure area over the North Bay of Bengal and adjoining Bangladesh coast, which is expected to bring widespread rainfall to Odisha and neighboring states in the coming days.
According to the latest IMD update, a low-pressure system has already formed over the northwest Bay of Bengal, impacting areas along the Odisha and West Bengal coasts. This system has triggered rainfall across several parts of Odisha, and another low-pressure system is expected to develop by Saturday evening.
Under its influence, heavy rainfall is likely in Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Sundargarh, and Keonjhar on Saturday, with moderate showers forecasted for other parts of northern and southern Odisha.
On June 29, heavy rain is expected in Balasore, Bhadrak, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, and Sundargarh. The IMD has issued an orange warning for very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, and Jajpur on June 30, with rain also likely in Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Angul, Deogarh, Sambalpur, and Sundargarh.
On July 1, very heavy rain is forecasted for Nayagarh, Kandhamal, and Kalahandi, while heavy showers are likely in Koraput, Nabarangpur, Balangir, Sonepur, Boudh, Cuttack, Khurda, Gajapati, Ganjam, Nuapada, Rayagada, and Puri.
