Crime Branch to conduct TI parade in Gopalpur beach gangrape case

Bhubaneswar, June 20: The Odisha Crime Branch will conduct a Test Identification (TI) parade of the six accused in the Gopalpur beach gangrape case, currently lodged in Berhampur jail. The TI parade will be conducted in the presence of a judicial magistrate, during which the victim will identify the accused involved in the heinous crime.
The Crime Branch had earlier sought permission from the District and Sessions Judge, Ganjam, to carry out the procedure. The court has granted approval, and the TI parade is scheduled to take place on Friday and Saturday.
As part of the investigation, the victim and her male friend have already recorded their statements in court under Section 183 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).
Out of the ten accused in the case, six adults are in judicial custody at Berhampur jail, while four juveniles are being held in an observation home.
A 9-member Crime Branch team, led by an Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP), has been stationed at Gopalpur for three consecutive days. They have been coordinating with local police officials and gathering crucial evidence, including witness testimonies from locals who responded to the victim's cries.
So far, seven mobile phones have been seized, with one more confiscated on the third day. The Crime Branch has also taken over the original First Information Report (FIR) from Gopalpur police and officially registered a new case to intensify the investigation.
