Orange warning issued for three Odisha districts

Bhubaneswar, June 16: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange warning for three districts in Odisha — Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, and Kalahandi — ahead of expected thunderstorms with lightning, gusty surface winds reaching 30 to 40 kmph, and heavy to very heavy rainfall. The IMD has advised residents in these areas to remain alert and take necessary precautions to ensure safety.
In addition to the orange alert, a yellow warning has been issued for several other districts, including Kendrapara, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Nabarangapur, Nuapada, Kandhamal, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Balasore, Bhadrak, Ganjam, Gajapati, Koraput, and Malkangiri. These areas are likely to experience moderate weather disturbances such as thunderstorms and rainfall.
According to the IMD forecast, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty surface winds are expected to affect a wide range of districts on June 17. These include Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kandhamal, Nabarangapur, Rayagada, Koraput, and Malkangiri. The IMD specifically noted that gusty winds reaching speeds of 30–40 kmph are very likely at isolated places within these districts.
