Bhubaneswar, June 9: In a shocking case of domestic violence, a man allegedly killed his elder sister with an iron rod during a heated altercation at Jinkala village under Mahulapada police station limits in Odisha’s Sundargarh district on Sunday night. The accused has been identified as Bijay Mahanta, while the deceased was his elder sister, Hemagiri Mahanta.

According to police sources, the incident occurred following a quarrel between Bijay and his wife. As the argument grew intense, Hemagiri intervened in an attempt to pacify the couple. However, an enraged Bijay lost control and struck his sister on the head with an iron rod. The impact caused severe injuries, and Hemagiri collapsed on the spot.

Realising the gravity of the situation, Bijay rushed Hemagiri to Bonai Hospital in an attempt to save her. Unfortunately, doctors declared her dead upon arrival.

Mahulapada police were informed shortly thereafter and have launched an investigation. Bijay has been taken into custody, and the iron rod used in the attack has been seized. A case of murder has been registered, and further inquiry is underway to ascertain the full details surrounding the incident.
