Bhubaneswar, June 4: A disturbing incident has rocked the Bareipali police station in Sambalpur, where a police constable has been apprehended on charges of allegedly attempting to rape a 14-year-old minor girl. The accused, identified as Constable Biranchi Munda, was arrested following a complaint lodged by the victim's family and local residents.

According to preliminary reports, the heinous act occurred when Munda reportedly lured his niece, a resident of Adibasipada, to a secluded location. Under the false pretense of watching a Shital Sasthi yatra procession, the constable allegedly attempted to sexually assault the young girl. 

Displaying immense courage, the victim managed to escape from the clutches of her attacker and immediately informed her family members about the harrowing ordeal.

Upon learning of the incident, the victim's family, along with concerned local residents, promptly approached the police to file a formal complaint. Acting swiftly on the information, authorities apprehended Munda, who was subsequently produced in court. Police have registered a case against the accused under relevant sections of the law and have initiated a thorough investigation into the matter.
