Youth succumbs to knife attack injuries in Bhubaneswar; family alleges preplanned murder

Bhubaneswar, April 30: A young man who was critically injured in a knife attack earlier this week in Bhubaneswar, the capital of Odisha, has succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday. The deceased has been identified as Janmejaya, also known as Bapuni.
According to sources, Janmejaya was residing with his parents in the Science Park slum under Shaheed Nagar Police Station limits. His cousin, along with his parents—Janmejaya’s uncle and aunt—lived nearby in the same slum.
The incident took place on Sunday when a verbal altercation broke out between Janmejaya and his cousin. The dispute quickly escalated into a physical fight. Shanti Bhushan Nayak, Janmejaya’s uncle, intervened but also allegedly became involved in the altercation. During the scuffle, Janmejaya was reportedly attacked with a knife and was rushed to the hospital in critical condition.
Despite undergoing treatment, he passed away on Wednesday. His mother and sister have now alleged that the attack was premeditated. They claim Janmejaya was beaten with a hockey stick by Shanti Bhushan Nayak, Chandan, and others, which led to his death. Police investigation is underway.
