Bhubaneswar, March 25: A tragic fire incident at a Durga Puja pandal near Sector-6 Telephone Bhavan in Rourkela claimed the life of a 12-year-old boy on Tuesday afternoon. The victim has been identified as Badal Maharana, son of Ajay Maharana from Vivekananda Palli, Sector-6.

According to reports, Badal was playing at the Durga pandal with four other children when the fire broke out. While the other children managed to escape, Badal, who worked at a local chicken shop in Sector-6 Market, was trapped in the flames and suffered severe burns.

Upon receiving the information, Sector-6 police rushed to the scene, rescued the child, and immediately sent him to Rourkela Government Hospital (RGH). Unfortunately, doctors declared him dead upon arrival.

Fire personnel arrived at the spot and extinguished the blaze, but the exact cause of the fire remains unknown. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the circumstances leading to the incident. The tragic death has left the local community in deep shock and mourning.
