Two minor girls die, two critical after consuming chhatua in Gajapati

Bhubaneswar, March 24: In a tragic incident, two minor girls lost their lives, and two others are in critical condition after allegedly consuming chhatua (roasted flour) provided by an Anganwadi Centre at Ramgiri village under R. Udayagiri police limits in Gajapati district.
According to reports, the chhatua was distributed at the Anganwadi centre on Friday, and the family members of Shiva Shankar Badamundi consumed it on Monday. Shortly after, four members of the family—including two minor girls, Tulasi and Gunabati—fell seriously ill. They were rushed to Ramgiri Primary Health Centre, where Shiva’s daughter Tulasi died during treatment.
As their condition worsened, the remaining three were shifted to District Headquarters Hospital in Paralakhemundi, where Shiva’s sister, Gunabati, also succumbed. The surviving members, Shiva Shankar’s father, Arjun Badamundi, and 13-year-old daughter, Sumitra, have been transferred to Brahmapur Medical College and Hospital, where they remain critical.
Authorities have launched an investigation, and the exact cause of the tragedy will be confirmed after the post-mortem report. The incident has left the local community in shock.
