‘Maha Snana’ ritual performed at Puri Jagannath Temple after servitor sustains injuries

Bhubaneswar, March 22: The sacred ‘Maha Snana’ purification ritual was conducted at the Shree Jagannath Temple in Puri on Saturday after a servitor sustained injuries inside the temple premises. The injured servitor has been identified as Krishnachandra Apat, a resident of Balisahi in Puri district.
According to reports, Apat, a Pani Apata servitor, accidentally fell near the ‘Bhitar Katha’ inside the temple, suffering injuries to his hands and feet that led to profuse bleeding. The incident caused a disruption in temple proceedings, delaying both the general darshan and the ‘Gopala Ballabh’ ritual by approximately two hours.
Following the mishap, bloodstains were noticed near the ‘Bhitar Katha,’ prompting other servitors to immediately perform the ‘Maha Snana’ ritual to purify the temple before resuming the daily rituals. Once the purification was completed, the remaining temple proceedings continued, and general darshan was reopened for devotees.
The injured servitor was initially treated at the Puri District Headquarters Hospital (DHH). However, due to the severity of his injuries, he was later transferred to AIIMS Bhubaneswar for advanced medical care.
