High Court gives interim assurance to Bishnupada Sethi

The CBI raided the house of IAS Bishnupada Sethi in the Bridge and Roof Corporation Limited bribery case. CBI officials raided his house and inspected the records. Bishnupada Sethi had approached the High Court protesting against such action by the CBI. Justice S.K. Panigrahi, who heard the case on Tuesday, has given an interim order that the CBI cannot take any strict action against Bishnupada till the next hearing.
On the other hand, the CBI has taken time to file its reply in the case. The next hearing is scheduled for March 4. The CBI has registered a case against Bridge and Roof Corporation Limited's General Manager Chanchal Mukherjee, Santosh Maharana and others for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 10 lakh for passing a bill. Although IAS Bishnupada's name is not mentioned in the FIR, the CBI had raided his house a few days ago and examined the records. Bishnupada Sethi has approached the High Court protesting against such action by the CBI. He has stated in the court that he has no involvement in the allegations against him by the CBI. No FIR has been registered against him. No items were seized from his house during the CBI raid. He has always cooperated in the investigation; but the CBI has been abusing its power and repeatedly raiding his house. This is damaging his and his family's reputation. Recently, the bank accounts in his and his wife's names were frozen by the CBI.
The petitioner, Mr. Sethi, has prayed in the High Court to activate the said account and to stay the illegal actions of the CBI. The court has passed the above orders after conducting preliminary hearing in the case. Senior advocate Dayanish Panda is handling the case on behalf of the petitioner.
