116 students walk 22 km to meet Collector over poor food, mistreatment in Mayurbhanj

Bhubaneswar, Feb 25: In a dramatic protest, 116 students from Basipitha Ashram School in Khunta block of Mayurbhanj district walked 22 kilometers overnight to the district headquarters in Baripada after allegedly facing poor food quality and mistreatment at their school hostel.
According to reports, the students claimed that they were served substandard food at the hostel. When they complained, they alleged that the teachers used abusive language against them instead of addressing their concerns. Frustrated with their grievances being ignored, the students left the hostel at midnight and walked to Baripada to seek justice.
Upon learning about the situation, Baripada Sub-Collector Dayasindhu Parida and District Welfare Officer (DWO) Guru Charan Mallick reached the spot to address the students' concerns. Baripada Additional District Magistrate Netrananda Mallick assured the students that the Collector has promised to take necessary action to improve their living conditions.
DWO Mallick confirmed that a detailed investigation into the food quality and alleged mistreatment would be conducted, and if the complaints were found valid, strict action would be taken against those responsible.
