BJD leader arrested in connection with murder of minor in Jajpur

Bhubaneswar, Feb 20: A Biju Janata Dal (BJD) leader, Kamal Mallik, vice-chairman of Jajpur block, has been arrested for his alleged involvement in the murder of a 14-year-old boy at Siba Chhak market on February 9. He was taken into custody on Tuesday night and remanded to judicial custody on Wednesday.
According to reports, the incident unfolded when Sukadev Das, a resident of Gobindpur, visited a fast food stall at the market. He reportedly questioned the stall owner, Anil Mallik, about a delay in serving chowmein, which led to a heated argument. In response, Anil allegedly assaulted Sukadev.
Hearing about the attack on his father, Santanu, the 14-year-old boy, rushed to the spot and confronted Anil. This further escalated the situation, and Kamal Mallik, along with others present, allegedly attacked Santanu with lathis and iron rods. The severely injured boy was first taken to the district headquarters hospital, then shifted to a private hospital in Cuttack, where he succumbed to his injuries the same night.
Following the tragic incident, Santanu’s family lodged an FIR with Jajpur Sadar police, naming Kamal and others as the accused. The case is currently under investigation.
