Odisha Vigilance arrests Keonjhar Deputy Collector for accepting ₹50,000 bribe

Bhubaneswar, Feb 19: Odisha Vigilance officials arrested Sarat Kumar Giri, OAS-A (SB), LA (General), and Competent Authority for Land Acquisition in the Keonjhar Collectorate, for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹50,000.
Giri, who also serves as the Deputy Collector, was caught red-handed in his office while accepting the bribe from a complainant. The bribe was allegedly demanded in exchange for disbursing the compensation amount for the complainant’s land acquired by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).
Following his arrest, Odisha Vigilance launched simultaneous searches at three locations linked to Giri, including his office and residence, as part of a disproportionate assets (DA) inquiry.
A case has been registered against him by Balasore Vigilance under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018. The investigation is ongoing, and officials are scrutinizing his financial records to determine if he amassed illicit wealth beyond his known sources of income.
