Odisha Assembly witnesses uproar as opposition protests over law and order, farmers' issues

Bhubaneswar, Feb 15: The Odisha Legislative Assembly descended into chaos today as members of the opposition Congress and Biju Janata Dal (BJD) engaged in heated protests over multiple issues. While Congress legislators raised concerns about the deteriorating law and order situation in the state, BJD members demanded justice for farmers, criticizing the government’s handling of paddy procurement.
As soon as the question hour commenced, opposition members stormed into the well of the House, shouting slogans against the government. Congress MLAs accused the ruling dispensation of failing to curb rising crime, citing increasing incidents of violence, corruption, and lawlessness. Simultaneously, BJD legislators expressed strong dissatisfaction over the plight of farmers, alleging that the government's failure to ensure proper procurement of paddy had led to distress among cultivators.
The Speaker attempted to restore order, urging the protesting members to return to their seats and allow proceedings to continue. However, with neither side willing to relent, the House remained in disarray, forcing an adjournment till noon amid the ongoing uproar.
