IMD issues dense fog alert for 11 Odisha districts, chilly weather persists

Bhubaneswar, Jan 13: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Bhubaneswar has issued a dense fog alert for 11 districts, including Sambalpur, Kalahandi, Cuttack, Khurdha, Puri, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Ganjam, Gajapati, Jagatsinghpur, and Kendrapara, until the morning of January 14. Dense fog reduced visibility to less than 50 meters in several areas, including Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, on Monday, significantly disrupting vehicular traffic.
The IMD has also forecast a rise in night temperatures by 2°C–4°C over the next two days, followed by a drop of 2°C–3°C in the subsequent three days. Currently, Odisha is experiencing cold conditions, with temperatures dipping below 10°C in several regions.
G Udayagiri in Kandhamal recorded the state’s lowest temperature at 5.2°C in the past 24 hours. Angul experienced temperatures 4°C below normal. Bhubaneswar and Cuttack recorded below-normal temperatures of 13.2°C and 12.8°C, respectively.
No significant change in weather is expected until January 16, according to the IMD forecast.
