Elderly man killed in elephant attack in Odisha’s Angul district

Bhubaneswar, Jan 10: In a tragic incident of human-wildlife conflict, a 62-year-old man, Sambhunath Pradhan, was killed by a wild elephant in the Daturagarh forest range of Odisha’s Angul district on Friday morning.
Reports indicate that Sambhunath had ventured into the forest to collect leaves for goat fodder when he encountered a stray elephant. The animal attacked and trampled him to death.
The incident has triggered panic and tension among villagers, who claim that elephant-related threats have been increasing in the area. As news of Sambhunath’s death spread, locals gathered at the site, expressing their anger and grief.
Angul Assistant Conservator of Forests (ACF) Vidya Sagar has reached the village to address the villagers’ concerns and calm the situation. However, the villagers have prevented Forest Department personnel from moving Sambhunath’s body for an autopsy, demanding immediate action to mitigate the recurring elephant menace in the region.
