Bhubaneswar, Nov 29: In a significant interception, police in Odisha's Ganjam district seized 88 kg of silver bars and ₹5 lakh in cash from a private car on Friday. The vehicle was en route from Berhampur to Kolkata when it was stopped near the Gurapalli toll plaza under Khallikote police limits during a routine vehicle check.

Upon inspection, the police discovered several silver bars along with the cash. After proper valuation and measurement, the total silver weight was confirmed to be 88 kilograms, and the cash was estimated at ₹5 lakh.

The police detained two individuals traveling in the car for questioning. During the interrogation, it was revealed that the silver bars were being transported to Kolkata without paying the mandatory Goods and Services Tax (GST).

The vehicle, along with the seized silver and cash, has been confiscated. Authorities are continuing their investigation to uncover any further irregularities in the transportation of these assets.
