Senior BJP leader and former Odisha Minister Samir Dey passes away

Bhubaneswar, Nov 18: Senior BJP leader and former Odisha minister Samir Dey passed away on Monday while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Cuttack. He had been unwell for a prolonged period and was admitted to a hospital in the CDA area on November 1.
Dey, who was suffering from pneumonia, had been in the ICU due to severe breathlessness and fever caused by a lung infection. Despite efforts, he could not recover.
Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and Deputy Chief Ministers Kanak Vardhan Singhdeo and Pravati Parida expressed their heartfelt condolences, remembering Dey’s significant contributions to the state and the BJP.
Samir Dey served as a member of the Odisha Legislative Assembly for three consecutive terms, winning from the Cuttack City Assembly seat in 1995, 2000, and 2004 on a BJP ticket. He held key portfolios in the state government, serving as the Minister of Urban Development from 2000 to 2004 and as the Minister of Higher Education from 2004 to 2009 during the coalition government led by then-Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik
