Scrub typhus claims life of Subarnapur farmer

Bhubaneswar, Nov 1: A farmer from Subarnapur, identified as 58-year-old Lekru Sahu from Akhidad village under Binika police limits, has reportedly died from scrub typhus, a disease spread through bites from infected mites. This case adds to a series of recent scrub typhus fatalities in Bargarh and surrounding districts.
Sahu contracted scrub typhus after being bitten by an infected mite while tending to his paddy field. His family first took him to the District Headquarters Hospital in Bargarh as his health worsened. Later, he was transferred to Samaleswari Private Nursing Home, where he fought the disease for 11 days but sadly passed away.
Scrub typhus, caused by bites from infected mites (also called chiggers), has become a significant health concern in districts like Bargarh and Subarnapur. Often mistaken for other illnesses, its symptoms include fever, chills, headache, and body aches. If untreated, the disease can be fatal.
