Tigress from Maharashtra released in Odisha’s Simlipal Tiger Reserve

Bhubaneswar, Oct 28: A female Royal Bengal Tigress from Maharashtra's Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve was released into Simlipal Tiger Reserve in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district on Monday. The 2.5-year-old tigress, captured on Saturday morning around 9:00 am, arrived in Simlipal on Sunday evening after a road journey.
The translocation aims to boost the dwindling tiger population in Simlipal. A special team, including the Director and Assistant Director of Simlipal, veterinary doctors, and a rapid response unit, traveled to Tadoba-Andhari to oversee the capture and transport of the animal. Upon arrival, the tigress was placed in an enclosure within the Kabataghai forest, a core area of the reserve, where it will be monitored closely.
This operation was part of a translocation mission approved by the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA). Authorities hope the tigress will adapt well to its new environment, contributing to the ecological balance and revival of the tiger population in Simlipal.
