Monsoon withdraws from most parts of Odisha, IMD predicts full retreat by Tuesday
Bhubaneswar, Oct 15: The southwest monsoon is in the final stages of withdrawal from Odisha, a process that began on October 13 and is expected to conclude by Tuesday, October 15.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the monsoon has fully withdrawn from districts including Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Khurda, Jajpur, Nayagarh, Boudh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Deogarh, Subarnapur, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, and Sundargarh. It has also receded from most parts of Bolangir, Kandhamal, and Ganjam, along with sections of Nuapada and Kalahandi.
Odisha received 1,092 mm of rainfall from June 1 to September 30, slightly below the normal level by 5%. Malkangiri recorded the highest rainfall at 1,982.1 mm, followed by Nuapada with 1,236.6 mm. However, the state experienced scanty rainfall in the past two weeks.
Meanwhile, a low-pressure area has developed in the southeast Bay of Bengal, raising expectations of post-monsoon weather changes.
