With water level at maximum, Hirakud Dam authorities monitor inflow and outflow

Bhubaneswar, Sept 21: The water level at Hirakud Dam has reached its peak capacity of 630 feet, with the reservoir currently holding water at the maximum level. As of 9 am today, the inflow into the dam was measured at 56,392 cusecs, while the outflow, including releases for canals, industries, and power generation, stood at 37,334 cusecs.
According to the Chief Engineer of the dam, all gates have been closed due to reduced rainfall in the upper catchment area. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and may reopen the gates if rainfall increases in the region.
The recent decrease in rainfall upstream in Chhattisgarh has contributed to a more manageable water level. Despite this, the authorities remain alert, prepared to take necessary actions to prevent any potential overflow, ensuring the safety and continued operation of the dam.
