Female elephant electrocuted in Mayurbhanj

Bhubaneswar, July 13: A female elephant was electrocuted to death in a field in the Nakichua forest under the Rasagovindpur range in Mayurbhanj district on Saturday.
Rasagovindpur Range Officer Ghanashyam Swain reported that the elephant, estimated to be six to seven years old, came into contact with a live wire and died in the field. Locals discovered the pachyderm's body around 4 AM today and alerted forest officials.
Forester Ashok Maji and Ranger Ghanshyam Singh are at the scene, along with Divisional Forest Officer A Uma Mahesh and ACF Rabinarayan Mohanty.
The elephant's carcass has been seized for autopsy, and an investigation has been launched to determine the circumstances leading to the animal's death.
Forest officials stated that the elephant had separated from a herd of nine elephants from the Similipal forest.
