ECI approves EVM verification request by Jharsuguda candidate Dipali Das

Bhubaneswar, June 21: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has approved the request of Dipali Das, the BJD MLA candidate from Jharsuguda, for EVM/VVPAT memory verification in her constituency.
This approval allows for the verification and checking of 13 polling stations in Jharsuguda.
"I am not dissatisfied with the results, but as a candidate, I have the right to request EVM verification due to suspected irregularities at some booths," Dipali told the media while seeking verification across the 13 polling stations.
Dipali's request for EVM verification came after she narrowly lost to BJP’s Tankadhar Tripathy by 1,333 votes.
In a statement, the ECI explained, “According to the standard operating procedure and legal guidelines, the verification process can be initiated within 4 weeks of the verification of the Election Petition status filed in the respective constituencies from the High Court Registrars by CEOs.”
“The technical Standard Operating Procedure detailing the methodology and steps for verifying the burnt memory/microcontroller of EVM units will be issued by the Commission before the end of the election petition period on July 19,” the statement added.
Dipali had won a by-poll in 2023 following the death of her father Naba Das but lost the recent General elections to BJP’s Tankadhar Tripathy by 1,333 votes in Jharsuguda, where there were also 1,297 Nota votes.
