Tensions flare as BJP and BJD workers clash at polling booth

Bhubaneswar, May 25: Reports on Saturday indicate a looming clash between rival groups at a polling booth in Odisha. A significant altercation erupted between workers of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) during voting at a booth in Athagarh.
The clash escalated to instances of vandalism, with chairs hurled across the waiting area. Four individuals sustained injuries from both sides. Police reinforcements, including one platoon of forces along with the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) and Athagarh police, have been dispatched to the scene.
Meanwhile, voting for the third phase of elections in Odisha has commenced for six Lok Sabha seats and 42 assembly seats. This phase encompasses polling in six Lok Sabha constituencies—Sambalpur, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Cuttack, Puri, and Bhubaneswar—along with 42 assembly constituencies nested within them.
A total of 94.48 lakh voters will determine the fate of 447 candidates—64 for Member of Parliament (MP) and 383 for Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA)—on May 25 in the sixth phase of the concurrent general election-2024.
