Fraudster arrested: Odisha Police crack down on job scam preying on youth

Balasore, April 25: On Tuesday night, Soro police apprehended an alleged fraudster accused of deceiving 22 young individuals under the guise of promising them employment opportunities in banks and various sectors.
The suspect, identified as Ramesh Chandra Padhi and a resident of Manitri village within Soro police jurisdiction, was presented before court on Thursday for purportedly swindling over Rs 2 crore from multiple youths.
According to law enforcement sources, Padhi purportedly solicited Rs 3 lakh from Sanjay Kumar Panda and 21 others in 2019, falsely offering them positions in different banks and sectors. Padhi allegedly presented fabricated bank notifications to gain the trust of his victims.
When the promised job interviews failed to materialize, the victims approached Padhi, who allegedly accompanied them to the Grievance Cell of Balasore Collectorate office, where he filed a petition on their behalf. Additionally, Padhi reportedly lodged a fraudulent writ petition with the Orissa High Court.
After confirming with banks that no recruitment advertisements had been issued, the victims, led by Sanjay from Chaparpada village of Sajanpur panchayat, sought assistance from Soro Police, realizing they had fallen victim to Padhi's schemes.
Prior to this, Sushant Kumar from Soro had filed a complaint alleging Padhi defrauded him of Rs 58 lakh by falsely promising a kerosene dealership license.
Following these complaints, police initiated a search operation and arrested Padhi in Bhadrak the previous night, subsequently presenting him before court on Thursday. Padhi faces as many as 10 pending cases.
