Mercury rising: Odisha set for three-day heat wave, says IMD

Bhubaneswar, April 4: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Bhubaneswar has issued yellow warnings for heat wave conditions in 11 districts of Odisha, spanning the next three days.
According to IMD forecasts, Nayagarh, Boudh, Kandhamal, Cuttack, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Bolangir, Kalahandi, Malkangiri, Koraput, and Dhenkanal districts will face intense heat wave conditions during daylight hours, coupled with high humidity at night.
Temperatures are expected to soar three to five degrees Celsius above normal, particularly in coastal and interior Odisha, leading to intense humid conditions for the next three days. The Regional MeT Centre indicates that weather conditions will remain unchanged until April 6.
The prevailing dry air from the northwest/west and intense solar radiation are driving the rise in temperatures, with daytime maximum temperatures likely to exceed 40°C in many Odisha districts. This is expected to persist until April 6, according to IMD statements.
IMD advises people to take precautionary measures when outdoors between 11 am and 3 pm to mitigate the effects of the heat wave.
