BMC pledges salary increase: Sanitation workers withdraw strike

Bhubaneswar, Marc 12: Sanitation workers, who had been staging a protest at Rajmahal Square for the past two days over various demands including a salary hike, called off their strike on Tuesday following assurances from Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation Mayor Sulochana Das regarding a salary increase within three days.
Their demands centered on a salary raise to Rs 15,000 and the appointment of dedicated personnel for segregating dry waste from wet waste.
Mayor Sulochana Das addressed the media stating, "The sanitation workers had two primary demands: a salary increase and separate personnel for waste segregation. Acknowledging their concerns, the state government has committed to announcing a salary hike within three days. Additionally, the government will take a decision on waste segregation within 15 days."
Earlier, the sanitation workers had protested on February 24 due to unmet demands, with discussions on February 29 yielding no results. The government's delay in addressing their concerns led to the launch of an indefinite strike.
They accused both the government and the BMC of neglecting their demands despite repeated requests for a salary hike.
