Female Maoist cadre surrenders before Koraput Police, declared Mao-free district
Bhubaneswar, Feb 5: In a significant breakthrough in the fight against Left-Wing Extremism, a 26-year-old female Maoist cadre, Mamata Padiami alias Mamita, surrendered before DIG, South Western Range (Koraput), Kanwar Vishal Singh, on Thursday.
Mamita, a native of Lingapuram village in neighbouring Chhattisgarh, had been actively involved in Maoist activities across the border areas. Police officials described her as a hardcore cadre who played a role in strengthening Maoist operations in the region.
During the surrender, Mamita handed over her Self-Loading Rifle (SLR). Security forces also seized arms, ammunition and incriminating Maoist literature from her possession, including a manual related to landmine preparation, highlighting her operational involvement.
As per the government’s surrender and rehabilitation policy, Mamita will receive financial assistance amounting to Rs 7.15 lakh as an incentive to reintegrate into mainstream society. The surrender ceremony was attended by Koraput SP and other senior police officials, who termed the development a morale booster for security forces.
On the occasion, DIG Kanwar Vishal Singh declared Koraput district “Mao-free,” calling it a major milestone in ongoing anti-Maoist efforts in the region.
