BJD reshuffles Rajya Sabha leadership; Manas Mangaraj named Parliamentary Party leader
Bhubaneswar, April 13: In a significant organisational move, Naveen Patnaik, president of the Biju Janata Dal (BJD), has appointed senior leader Manas Ranjan Mangaraj as the new Leader of the BJD Parliamentary Party in the Rajya Sabha.
Alongside this, Sulata Deo has been appointed as the Deputy Leader and Chief Whip of the party in the Upper House. Both appointments have come into effect immediately, signalling a swift restructuring of the party’s parliamentary leadership.
In his capacity as party president, Naveen Patnaik has formally communicated the changes to the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, seeking official recognition for the newly appointed leaders. The reshuffle follows the recently concluded biennial elections to the Rajya Sabha and the retirement of several senior BJD members from the House.
The move is seen as part of the BJD’s broader strategy to strengthen its presence and coordination in Parliament amid evolving political dynamics. With experienced leaders now at the helm, the party is expected to play a more assertive role in legislative proceedings and policy debates in the coming sessions.
