Two women die in separate snakebite incidents in Mayurbhanj district

Bhubaneswar, Aug 2: In two tragic and unrelated incidents, two women lost their lives after being bitten by venomous snakes in different parts of Mayurbhanj district on Saturday. The incidents were reported from areas under Kaptipada and Udala police limits.
In the first incident, Jayanti Behera, a resident of Golagadia village under Kaptipada police station, was bitten by a snake while sleeping inside her home late at night. Family members immediately rushed her to Udala Hospital, and she was later referred to a hospital in Baripada due to her critical condition. Despite the doctors' efforts, Jayanti succumbed to the snakebite.
The second incident occurred in Mauda village under Udala police station. Sukanti Baske was collecting firewood near her home when a snake, hidden among the wood logs, bit her on the hand. She was quickly taken to a nearby hospital, but unfortunately, she died while undergoing treatment.
Both deaths have cast a pall of gloom over the respective villages. Local authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant, especially during the monsoon season when snakebite cases tend to rise.
