Wanted criminal Sunil Nahak injured in police encounter in Ganjam

Bhubaneswar, Aug 2: Notorious criminal Sunil Nahak was injured in a police encounter on the Peetatali-Chikiti Road in Ganjam district, following a high-stakes operation launched by Berhampur police. The operation was part of a special crackdown ordered by the Ganjam Superintendent of Police to curb rising criminal activities in the region.
Sunil Nahak, who was wanted in multiple criminal cases—including a major loot case registered at Nimkhandi police station—had been evading arrest for months. Based on specific intelligence, a police team led by the Golanthara police officer located Sunil and attempted to apprehend him. In a bid to escape, Sunil opened fire on the police team. The police retaliated, and during the exchange of gunfire, he sustained a bullet injury to his left leg.
He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital and is currently undergoing treatment under tight security. Police recovered a firearm and other incriminating materials from the spot. Officials stated that the encounter was a significant breakthrough in their ongoing efforts to dismantle organized criminal networks. Further investigation is underway to identify his associates and unearth more details about his criminal operations.
