Key accused in Gandhamardan mine scam granted conditional bail
Bhubaneswar, Aug 2: The District & Sessions Judge of Keonjhar has granted conditional bail to Raja Chakra, a prime accused in the multi-crore financial misappropriation case linked to the Gandhamardan mine. The bail, valid for 15 days, was granted on humanitarian grounds to allow Raja to attend the last rites of his father-in-law.
The court, while granting the relief, imposed strict conditions. Raja has been directed not to influence any witnesses or tamper with evidence during the bail period. He is also required to appear before the court after the completion of the 15-day period.
Raja Chakra, along with several associates, was arrested by the Crime Branch on March 20, 2025, following serious allegations of financial irregularities involving the Gandhamardan Loading Agency and Transporting Cooperative Society Limited.
Investigations revealed that over ₹33 crore was disbursed to villagers over a span of four years. Of this, ₹9.1 crore was allegedly siphoned off to a petrol pump named Maa Kali. Moreover, workers were reportedly duped under the pretense of wage payments, adding further gravity to the case. The probe into the scam continues.
