Ex-MLA's brother arrested for assaulting vendor in Jajpur
Bhubaneswar, Nov 23: The Jajpur Town police on Saturday arrested Bhaba Prakash Das, brother of former MLA and BJD leader Pranab Prakash Das, for allegedly assaulting and threatening a vendor. Bhaba was taken into custody prior to his formal arrest.
The incident reportedly took place on Wednesday morning at the Biraja Hat market in Jajpur. According to sources, the victim, Madan Nayak, was at the market to sell his goods when a group of around 50 people, led by Bhaba, allegedly assaulted him and verbally abused him.
The group is accused of stealing vegetables worth ₹10,000 from Nayak and taking ₹12,000 in cash from his pocket. Following the incident, Nayak lodged a complaint with the police, who registered a case under multiple sections.
Bhaba, along with several accomplices, including Balabhadra Das, Jagannath Das, Sahajuddin, Sekh Mujtez, Santosh Kumar Mallik, Surendra Rana, Ajit Sahu, Subhasish Raut, Debiprasad Pani, Sukanta Pani, Tushar Ranjan Behera, Partha Sarathi Mahapatra, Manaa Govinda Pati, Ranjan Sahoo, Saubhagya Ranjan, Janmejay Kanungo, and Chittaranjan Sahoo, was subsequently arrested.
