Sujeet Kumar resigns from Rajya Sabha, joins BJP
Bhubaneswar, Sept 6: Just hours after resigning from his Rajya Sabha membership, Sujeet Kumar joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at the party’s national headquarters in New Delhi on Friday.
Kumar was welcomed into the BJP by Union Minister for Education Dharmendra Pradhan, Cuttack MP Bhartruhari Mahtab, BJP Odisha In-Charge Vijaypal Singh Tomar, and other senior leaders.
Earlier in the day, Sujeet Kumar submitted his resignation to Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar and BJD Chief Naveen Patnaik, stating, "I do hereby tender my resignation from the membership of Rajya Sabha. I have taken this decision consciously," in his letter to the Chairman.
Following his resignation, the BJD swiftly expelled Sujeet Kumar from the party. The official order stated, "Shri Sujeet Kumar, M.P., Rajya Sabha representing Biju Janata Dal, is expelled from the Party with immediate effect for anti-party activities. He has let down the Party that sent him to Rajya Sabha and the hopes and aspirations of the people of Kalahandi district."
Notably, this follows the recent resignation of Mamata Mohanta, who also stepped down as MP and from the primary membership of the BJD.
