Khan Academy Launches AI Tool “Khanmigo” Free for All Teachers in India, Empowering Educators in India with Innovative Educational Support

Bhubaneswar — Khan Academy, the global nonprofit committed to providing a free, world-class education to anyone, anywhere, has announced the launch of its AI-powered tool, Khanmigo, free for all teachers in India starting November 14th, 2024. As part of this launch, teachers will be able to access Khanmigo as a teaching assistant for free. Available in both English and Hindi, Khanmigo is an AI teaching assistant and student tutor designed to enhance teacher productivity and student learning. This launch builds on Khan Academy’s commitment to making high-quality educational resources accessible and impactful across languages.

Teachers will gain free access to Khanmigo on Khan Academy’s platform, equipped with tools to streamline lesson preparation, support personalized student engagement, and enhance classroom learning. Already used by educators worldwide, Khanmigo offers intuitive features such as curriculum-aligned assessments at various difficulty levels, generate lesson hooks, and concise chapter summaries. With these tools, teachers can focus more on individual student needs and less on administrative tasks, making classroom instruction more impactful.

Swati Vasudevan, Managing Director of Khan Academy India, expressed her enthusiasm for the rollout: “On this special occasion of Children’s Day, we’re thrilled to make Khanmigo available to all teachers across India at no cost. At Khan Academy, we believe that teachers are the key to unlocking each child’s potential, and by providing Khanmigo, we’re empowering educators to create personalized and impactful learning experiences for every student. Our goal is to break down barriers to technology access, enabling teachers to inspire and support the children of India in reaching their full potential.”

The global rollout of Khanmigo as a free tool for teachers, made possible through Microsoft’s support and investment, represents a significant step in Khan Academy’s mission to expand educational opportunities through technology. Now available in over 40 countries, Khanmigo empowers educators worldwide. In India, teachers can access their free Khanmigo Teacher Assistant by creating a teacher account on the Khan Academy platform in English or Hindi, unlocking AI-powered resources designed to enrich their teaching experience.

Embracing the pilot nature of Khanmigo, Khan Academy recognizes this implementation as a work in progress, with real-world use anticipated to guide continued improvements. Teachers and students alike are encouraged to engage with Khanmigo thoughtfully, fostering skills in digital literacy, critical thinking, and the responsible use of AI.
