Former Odisha MLA Sunanda Das joins BJP, alleges corruption in BJD’s candidate selection
Bhubaneswar, Nov 6: Former Odisha MLA Sunanda Das officially joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday, a week after her resignation from the Biju Janata Dal (BJD). She was accompanied by her husband, Debendra Kumar Das, who also joined the BJP. The couple was welcomed at the BJP state office in Bhubaneswar by party president Manmohan Samal and other senior leaders.
Das, who previously represented the Bari constituency in Jajpur district, left BJD last week, leveling significant allegations against the party. She accused BJD leaders and government officials of manipulating the candidate selection process for the upcoming 2024 elections, alleging that certain officers were involved in ticket distribution, which sparked controversy across Odisha's political landscape.
Sunanda Das had contested the 2019 elections from Bari as a BJD candidate and won. Her recent allegations and switch to BJP mark a noteworthy shift, likely to influence the state’s political dynamics ahead of the elections.
