Accused in hotelier's murder caught by Commissionerate Police
Bhubaneswar, Jan 16: The Commissionerate Police made a significant breakthrough on Tuesday in the murder case of a hotelier in Hirapur village near Bhubaneswar. Sunki Rana, the accused, has been apprehended.
Bhubaneswar DCP Prateek Singh informed the media that Purna Prakash Nayak reported the murder of his elder brother, Biswajit Nayak, at their residence in Hirapur village under Balianta police limits. The victim was discovered brutally murdered, with the incident likely occurring two to three days prior to the family's discovery.
Purna Chandra Nayak urged the police to investigate, leading to the identification and arrest of Sunki Rana. The investigation revealed that Sunki, a 36-year-old native of Jharsuguda with a prior murder case, had been residing in Puri after her release from jail four years ago. She had befriended the deceased through his mother.
The police alleged an affair between Biswajit and Sunki, who frequently visited his house with permission from the temple head where she stayed. On December 30 of the previous year, a quarrel ensued between the two when Sunki, receiving calls from Puri, sought permission to return. Denied by Biswajit, the dispute escalated, leading to Sunki fatally attacking him with a wooden stick on January 3, 2024, resulting in his death.
