Closed-door meeting of BJD leaders in Bhubaneswar sparks speculation amid Waqf Bill row

Bhubaneswar, April 9: A sudden and closed-door meeting of several senior and youth leaders of the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) at a hotel in Patia, Bhubaneswar, on Wednesday has sparked political speculation.
Prominent leaders such as Shashibhushan Behera, Ashok Panda, Chandra Sarathi Behera, Nursingh Sahu, Praful Samal, Bhupinder Singh, and Pravat Tripathy were seen attending the gathering. The presence of their vehicles outside the hotel further confirmed their participation.
While the exact agenda of the meeting remains undisclosed, the gathering has stirred curiosity within political circles, especially in light of the recent internal unrest in the BJD regarding the controversial Waqf Bill. The party has remained silent on the support extended by one of its members for the bill, which has raised eyebrows among both the public and party workers.
After the meeting, senior leader Shashibhushan Behera stated that if any external force attempts to weaken the BJD, party supremo Naveen Patnaik will strongly oppose it. His remarks have added to the intrigue surrounding the meeting, hinting at possible efforts to reaffirm internal unity ahead of future political developments.
