Odisha Police launch statewide awareness drive on financial frauds in online gaming

Bhubaneswar, April 23: In response to the rising threat of cybercrime linked to online gaming, the Odisha Police have initiated a statewide awareness campaign to educate the public about financial fraud risks. The campaign comes amid growing concerns over how digital gaming platforms are being misused by cybercriminals to exploit unsuspecting users.
With the popularity of online games surging across age groups, cyber fraudsters are deploying increasingly sophisticated methods to steal personal and financial information. In a recent social media post, the Berhampur Police highlighted the seriousness of these threats and shared important safety guidelines to help gamers protect themselves from becoming victims.
“Online gaming has become a hotspot for cybercriminals, with threats ranging from virtual theft and account breaches to real-world financial fraud and identity theft,” the Berhampur Police warned on X (formerly Twitter). They explained how attackers exploit platform vulnerabilities to carry out phishing scams, install malware, and manipulate users through social engineering tactics.
The police are urging gamers to remain cautious, avoid sharing personal details, enable two-factor authentication, and report any suspicious activity immediately. The campaign reflects the Odisha Police's commitment to digital safety and cybercrime prevention.
