Odisha assures uninterrupted power supply amid heatwave: Deputy CM Singh Deo

Bhubaneswar, April 22: As Odisha battles intense heatwave conditions, Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo, who also oversees the Energy Department, has assured the public that there will be no power cuts during peak summer hours this year.
To ensure relief for citizens during the sweltering heat, Singh Deo has directed electricity distribution companies (discoms) to avoid scheduled power outages, especially during daytime hours, when demand for cooling appliances peaks.
“In case of natural disruptions like thunderstorms where electric poles are damaged, some delay in restoration may occur,” he stated. “However, in many such cases, power has been restored within a couple of hours.” Referring to the Chief Minister’s grievance cell held in Sambalpur, Singh Deo noted there were no complaints regarding power supply, underscoring the system’s efficiency.
He highlighted that a new power management model, introduced this year, has significantly improved supply stability and responsiveness.
Additionally, the Deputy CM assured that power will not be disconnected for unpaid bills during the summer. However, consumers are expected to clear dues later, ensuring fairness while prioritizing public comfort.
