Woman, son killed after iron plates fall from truck in Balasore

Bhubaneswar, April 10: In a tragic road mishap, a woman and her young son lost their lives after heavy iron plates loaded on a truck slipped and crushed them on a National Highway near Simulia police station in Balasore district on Friday.

The deceased belonged to the family of Bijay Soren from Shyamsundarpur village under Nilgiri police limits. According to reports, the family had travelled to Paradip in search of employment. After completing their work, seven members of the family were returning and had taken a lift on a goods truck from Chandikhol, sitting in the open rear portion of the vehicle.

The accident occurred when the truck applied sudden brakes after hitting a road hump. The abrupt halt caused the stack of iron plates to shift and slide towards the back, falling directly on the passengers. The woman and her son sustained critical injuries on the spot.

Local residents immediately rushed to help and took the injured to Simulia Community Health Centre, where doctors declared both dead on arrival.

The tragic incident has left the family devastated and raised concerns over safety during transport of heavy goods.
