RI transferred after harassment allegations in Angul
Bhubaneswar, April 29: Action has been initiated against Reserve Inspector Govind Mahari following serious allegations of mental harassment and inappropriate behaviour levelled by a woman Havildar in Angul district.
Mahari has been transferred from the Angul Reserve Office to the 9th Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB) in Kalahandi district on the recommendation of the district Superintendent of Police. The transfer is being viewed as an initial administrative measure pending further investigation.
The complainant, identified as Havildar Sumitra Biswal, alleged that she was repeatedly subjected to mental harassment and objectionable conduct by the officer. She claimed that despite informing senior officials multiple times, no immediate action was taken, which compelled her to stage a protest outside the SP’s office seeking justice.
Following the protest, authorities constituted a high-level inquiry committee comprising a senior Deputy Superintendent of Police and members of the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) to probe the allegations.
The Inspector General of the Northern Central Range also met the complainant and assured her that a fair investigation is underway. Sources indicate that similar complaints had surfaced earlier against the officer, raising concerns of repeated misconduct.
Further action is expected after the inquiry report is submitted.
