Fishermen advised to stay ashore along Odisha coast
Bhubaneswar, April 30: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning advising fishermen not to venture into the sea along the Odisha coast for the next five days due to anticipated squally weather and rough sea conditions.
According to the alert, wind speeds of 50–60 kmph, gusting up to 70 kmph, are likely to prevail along and off the coast on April 30. From May 1 to May 4, winds are expected to blow at 40–50 kmph with gusts reaching 60 kmph, particularly affecting the North Odisha coast. Sea conditions during this period are forecast to remain rough to very rough, posing serious risks to fishing activities and small vessels.
The warning has been issued amid expectations of thunderstorm activity and strong winds across several parts of the state. Authorities have urged fishermen and boat operators to strictly adhere to the advisory and avoid venturing into deep sea areas during this period.
Officials have also advised coastal communities to remain alert and take necessary precautions in view of the changing weather conditions. The IMD continues to monitor the situation closely and may issue further updates if conditions intensify.
