IMD issues yellow warning for heatwave in western Odisha; thunderstorm alert for several districts

Bhubaneswar, Mar 13: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow warning for heatwave conditions in Jharsuguda and Sambalpur districts of Odisha. According to the IMD’s mid-day bulletin, heatwave conditions are likely to prevail at one or two places in these districts on March 14 and March 15. Residents have been advised to remain cautious and take necessary precautions to avoid heat-related illnesses, especially during peak afternoon hours.

Meanwhile, the regional weather office has also forecast thunderstorm activity in parts of northern Odisha. On March 16, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty surface winds with speeds reaching 30–40 kmph are expected at isolated places in Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar districts. A yellow alert has been issued for these areas.

The weather department further predicted that on March 17, similar thunderstorm activity with lightning and gusty winds may occur at isolated locations across several districts, including Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Kendrapara, Khordha, Jajpur, Dhenkanal, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Balasore, and Bhadrak. All these districts have been placed under yellow alert.

Additionally, on March 18, Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar districts are again likely to witness thunderstorms with lightning and winds of 30–40 kmph, prompting the IMD to maintain a yellow warning for these areas. Residents are advised to stay updated with weather advisories.
