Mother detained in Odisha for allegedly killing and burying 4-year-old daughter
Bhubaneswar, Oct 18: A woman is alleged to have killed her 4-year-old daughter and subsequently buried the child's body in a forest located in the Sarangada area of Odisha's Kandhamal district.
Although the incident occurred on Saturday, October 14, it only came to light today when the woman's father became suspicious of foul play and filed a complaint with the police.
Acting on the complaint, law enforcement officials later unearthed the child's body and sent it for a post-mortem examination.
According to reports, the accused, identified as 23-year-old Padmini Dandia, took her daughter, Surekha, to a forest near Gutingia village within the Sarangada police jurisdiction on that ill-fated day. There, she is alleged to have strangled the child to death before burying her remains at the location and returning home.
The police have detained the accused for questioning. The precise motive behind this heinous act remains to be determined. However, it has been revealed that a dispute between Padmini and her husband regarding the birth of their daughter existed, leading her to reside at her father's residence. This underlying conflict is suspected to be connected to the tragic killing.
A case has been registered, and further investigation into the matter is currently underway, according to the police.
