BJD announces statewide student strike on June 25 over women’s safety concerns

Bhubaneswar, June 23: The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) has announced a statewide student strike on June 25 to raise awareness about the alarming rise in crimes against women in Odisha. The party has urged students across the state to boycott classes and stage peaceful protests to demand stronger safety measures for women.
Addressing the media, BJD MLA Debi Ranjan Tripathy stated that the “All Odisha Student Strike” is being organized in response to over 3,000 cases of crimes against women reported in the past year. He emphasized that the strike is not politically motivated but aims to draw urgent attention to the deteriorating safety of women in public and private spaces.
As part of the protest, students will wear black badges and participate in picketing at educational institutions and public spaces. The BJD hopes this strike will send a strong message to the government, urging it to act decisively to improve law enforcement and implement women-centric safety policies.
Tripathy added that the youth of Odisha must take a stand to ensure that women can live with dignity and without fear.
